1. Introduction

AWEROK ("we," "us," or "our") operates the following Services:

  • AWEROK App — a free mobile and web application available on iOS, Android, and as a Progressive Web App
  • awerok.com — the AWEROK website and blog, publishing aviation stories, build logs, gear reviews, event coverage, and training content

Together these are referred to as the "Services." This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect across all AWEROK Services, how we use it, and your choices regarding that information.

By using any of the Services, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

2. Scope of This Policy

This policy applies to:

  • All visitors to awerok.com, regardless of whether they have an account
  • All users of the AWEROK mobile app (iOS and Android) and the AWEROK Progressive Web App
  • Anyone who contacts us or submits feedback through any AWEROK channel

Some sections below are specific to one Service and are labeled accordingly.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information You Provide Directly

Account Registration (App)
An account is only required if you choose to save events to a personal schedule. If you create an account, we collect the following through our authentication service (Keycloak at id.awerok.com):

  • Email address
  • Name (if provided by your chosen sign-in provider)
  • Authentication provider (Google, Apple, or email magic link)

The App never receives or stores your password. Authentication is handled entirely by Keycloak's hosted login page. We do not have access to your Google or Apple credentials.

Newsletter Opt-In (App and Website)
You may opt in to the AWEROK newsletter through the App after creating an account, or through a subscription form on awerok.com. Newsletter opt-in is always voluntary and unchecked or unselected by default. If you opt in, your email address is used to send aviation content and event updates. You may unsubscribe at any time.

Comments and Contact Forms (Website)
awerok.com provides a contact form and comment section. When you use these features, we collect the information you submit, such as your name, email address, and message. This information is used solely to respond to you or publish your comment.

In-App Feedback (App)
If you submit a bug report or suggestion through the App's feedback form, we collect the category you selected (bug, suggestion, or other), your free-text description, and any optional screenshot you attach. This is stored on our servers and used solely to improve the Services.

3.2 Information Collected Automatically

Analytics
We use PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated usage analytics across the App and Website. This helps us understand how the Services are used and which features or content are most valuable. Across both Services we may collect:

  • Pages or screens viewed and navigation paths
  • Features and browse views used (App: schedule, map, search, filters)
  • Session duration and frequency of use
  • General device and browser type and operating system
  • Referring URL (Website)
  • Connectivity state at the time of use (App: online or offline)
  • Error events and crash reports (App)

We do not collect any personally identifiable information through PostHog. Analytics are tied to an anonymous session identifier that is not linked to your account, email address, or device identity. No data is sold or shared with advertising networks.

Cookies and Local Storage (Website)
When you visit awerok.com, standard web technologies such as cookies or local storage may be used to support site functionality and anonymous analytics. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising purposes. If the blog platform we use sets any cookies beyond functional necessity, these will be disclosed in a cookie notice on the site.

Server Logs (Website)
Like most websites, awerok.com automatically collects standard web server log data when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. Server logs are used for security monitoring and operational diagnostics and are not used to identify individual users. Log data is retained for a limited period and then discarded.

Error and Crash Reporting (App)
The PostHog Flutter SDK automatically captures unhandled exceptions and crash events from the App. These reports include a stack trace and error type. They do not include personal data.

Device and Technical Information (App)
Standard technical information is collected during API requests, including your IP address (used for request routing and security), device operating system type, and app version. IP addresses are not stored persistently and are not used for tracking.

3.3 Location Data (App Only)

The App may request permission to access your device's GPS location to display your position on the venue map. Location data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. If you deny location permission, the map continues to function normally; only your real-time position indicator will be unavailable.

3.4 Locally Cached Data (App Only)

The App stores the following data locally on your device to enable offline functionality:

  • Event schedule data and venue information
  • Map tiles for the event grounds area
  • Your saved events list (synced to the cloud for signed-in users)
  • The most recent blog post title and excerpt (for the Home screen preview card)

This locally cached data remains on your device until you uninstall the App or clear the App's local storage.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and operate the Services
  • Sync your saved events across devices (signed-in App users)
  • Send you the AWEROK newsletter (only if you opted in and have not unsubscribed)
  • Understand usage patterns and improve the App and Website
  • Diagnose errors and fix bugs
  • Respond to your feedback, comments, or contact form submissions
  • Monitor for security issues and abuse
  • Meet legal and compliance obligations

We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we do not build individual user profiles for commercial purposes.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

Service Providers
We use the following third-party services that may process data on our behalf:

  • Keycloak (self-hosted at id.awerok.com): Authentication and identity management, running on our own infrastructure.
  • PostHog Cloud (posthog.com): Anonymous analytics and error tracking across the App and Website. PostHog's privacy policy is available at posthog.com/privacy.
  • Google / Apple: If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, those providers authenticate you and share limited profile information (name and email) with Keycloak. Your use of Google or Apple sign-in is subject to their respective privacy policies.
  • Email / Newsletter: If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address is stored on AWEROK's own infrastructure and is not shared with third-party email marketing platforms.
  • awerok.com: The AWEROK website and blog is a custom-built platform developed and operated by AWEROK. Standard web request data (IP addresses, browser headers, server logs) is collected by our own infrastructure as described in Section 3.2.

Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request from a court or government authority.

Business Transfers
If AWEROK is involved in a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users of any such change through the Services.

6. Sponsorship

The Services are supported by aviation brand sponsorships. Sponsors are acknowledged within the App and on the Website. Sponsorship acknowledgments are clearly identified and distinguished from editorial content. We do not share your data with sponsors, and sponsors have no access to any user information collected through the Services.

7. Third-Party Links

The Website and App may contain links to third-party websites and resources. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit.

8. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your user record and synced saved events are permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days.
  • Analytics data: Anonymous PostHog data is retained per PostHog's standard retention policy.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: Retained until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribing removes you from future sends; historical send records may be retained by the email platform for a limited period.
  • Feedback and contact submissions: Retained to track recurring issues and for correspondence history. Submissions contain no account identifiers unless you include identifying information in your message.
  • Server logs (Website): Retained for a limited operational period and then discarded.
  • Locally cached data (App): Retained on your device until you uninstall the App or clear local storage.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Account Deletion (App)
You may delete your account at any time from the Account screen in the App. Deleting your account removes your user record and synced saved events from our servers within 30 days.

Newsletter
You may unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email or by updating your preference in the App's Account screen.

Location Permissions (App)
You may grant or revoke location permission for the App at any time through your device's operating system settings.

Cookies (Website)
You may configure your browser to refuse cookies or alert you when cookies are being set. Disabling cookies may affect some Website functionality.

Analytics
The anonymous analytics we collect contain no personally identifiable information and cannot be linked to you or your account. At this time we do not offer a per-user opt-out of anonymous PostHog analytics across the Services.

Data Requests
If you have questions about the personal data we hold about you, or wish to request a copy or deletion of your personal data, please contact us.

10. Children's Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Authentication is handled by Keycloak using industry-standard PKCE flows, and all data in transit is encrypted using TLS. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users through the App or Website. Your continued use of the Services after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
